Amazon Santa Barbara

Amazon Santa Barbara

PROJECT NARRATIVE

Originally constructed as a bank and later renovated into a department store in 1987, the BA design team was challenged to create a space that felt modern and fresh, while honoring the building’s historic status and maintaining a connection to the iconic aesthetic of Santa Barbara. The pairing of clean white walls with natural textures and patterns celebrates the Spanish influence seen throughout the city. The expansive 18-foot structure heights and large floorplates create an open plan with a contemporary warehouse feel. The project includes three floors, with kitchen social areas, conferencing and collaboration zones, and bright open office spaces that leverage the plentiful natural light. The building is anchored by a retail café at the ground level, and a rooftop terrace gives users and teams a place to gather and enjoy the California sunshine and fresh air.
