About
Block 18 is a key centerpiece building for our client’s downtown campus. The Shell and Core design concept by Graphite Design Group – the Urban Treehouse- features a unique off-set core with a perimeter brace-framed structure. The east façade of the building features a vertical architectural communicating stair that connects the workplace continuously from floor to floor. The thin floor plates and half block geometry, result in unobstructed workplaces with sweeping views. The SABA team worked closely with the Shell and Core team to utilize the overall architectural design concept and implement with the client’s evolving workplace goals. SABA clustered the unique community oriented spaces, such as the kitchen social area and collaboration areas adjacent to the activated communicating stair. The authentic rustic material and design elements reinforce the design concept and the client’s call for frugality. The open office spaces utilize the daylight and unobstructed views at the perimeter of the buildings, and are anchored by team hub areas that promote collaboration, team engagement, and moments for team innovation and identity. The workplace design was divided vertically into three sections – the understory, canopy and overstory. For people exploring the whole treehouse- the materials, color palettes, and environmental graphics evolve throughout, which gives each floor its own unique sense of place within the overall space.
Project Summary
Block 18 is a a 19 story building in downtown Seattle at the heart of our tech client’s campus. SABA worked with the client on the tenant improvement to deliver an evolved workplace that addressed the unique needs of the user group moving into the building. The building featured an architectural connecting stair that allows the workplaces of adjacent floors to be activated with social gathering spaces and unique moments for interacation between people using different floors of the building. Our scope included training and a large event space, that allow people to come to the building for larger team and social gatherings.
