Virginia Mason Medical Center Compoundin

About
Finding a location for a new compounding pharmacy within the existing Virginia Mason hospital was particularly difficult due to the age of the existing construction, the ceiling height required in the mixing rooms, the existing mechanical systems, and the floor to floor height. Six locations were considered before deciding on the 11th floor of the existing hospital. The design incorporates a USP 797 chemo mixing room, a USP 797 room for mixing of investigational drugs, a non-hazardous mixing room, a USP 800 drug storage room, and a non-hazardous pharmacy storage room. There is also one central workroom that provides viewing into each of the mixing rooms. There are separate anterooms for the hazardous and non-hazardous mixing rooms.
