Ridley-Tree Cancer Center

Ridley-Tree Cancer Center
A community-funded cancer center delivering comprehensive, healing-focused care under one roof
COMPREHENSIVE CARE
One Roof, Every Stage of Treatment
This three-story cancer center consolidates radiation oncology, medical oncology, surgical oncology, and rotating specialty services under one roof, creating a connected care experience that reduces the need for patients to travel between facilities. Two primary zones anchor the plan: a combined medical oncology and infusion suite paired with an integrated prefabricated modular pharmacy, and a surgical oncology practice serving women's and breast oncology, head and neck oncology, and general surgical oncology. Centralizing these services supports a more efficient, coordinated model of cancer care.

Community Impact
Built by Generosity
The center was made possible through a community-driven philanthropic effort that raised more than $43 million in donations, and that spirit of generosity is woven throughout the building. Three custom-designed donor walls and original art pieces throughout the space honor contributors, while donor names are also incorporated into the wayfinding signage, ensuring the community's support remains visible to every patient and visitor who walks through the doors.

A commissioned sculpture for the lobby became an unexpected design challenge: the design team and hospital leadership worried the piece might overwhelm the intimate lobby space, disrupting the sense of calm the entry sequence was meant to create. The team used virtual reality to walk through the space with the sculpture in place, experiencing its scale, proportion, and presence firsthand well before construction was complete. This immersive preview allowed the team to test sightlines and adjust placement with confidence, ensuring the piece would feel integrated rather than imposing. That firsthand look gave leadership the confidence to move forward, and the sculpture now anchors the lobby as a lasting tribute to the building, greeting every visitor who walks through the door.
Every material and design decision supports the well-being of patients spending extended time in treatment. Finishes throughout the building are Red List free, eliminating chemicals of concern, and lighting is calibrated to minimize glare, providing focused task lighting in clinical areas and softer, more comfortable lighting in infusion spaces. Flexible treatment environments balance privacy with opportunities for social connection, while thoughtful operational planning supports staff efficiency alongside a more comfortable, human-centered patient experience.
