UC Davis Health Folsom Medical Care Clinic

UC Davis Health Folsom Medical Office Building
A New Standard for Outpatient Care
Anchor & Campus
A First Footprint in a Growing Community
This design-build project marks the client's first major off-campus development in a new region. The 114,000-square-foot building serves as the anchor for a master-planned, 34-acre medical campus in the community of Folsom, California. Site development includes amenities centered around a Central Green with walking paths, a children's playground, and an amphitheater designed to support community engagement.

Form Follows Function
Interior Logic, Exterior Shape
In a reversal of the typical design process, the building's interior programming dictated its exterior form. The team created a hinged layout that accommodates flexible clinical modules while providing panoramic outdoor views from concourse-inspired waiting terminals. Universal clinical modules prioritize functionality and flow, ensuring the building can adapt to future program changes without disrupting the patient or staff experience.

Patient experience
Designed to Orient, Built to Welcome
The clinical modules are arranged to provide an intuitive wayfinding experience and maximize access to daylight and views for patients and staff. Interior wayfinding graphics and components draw from the local natural biome, highlighting the flora and fauna of the region to reinforce the building's connection to its outdoor environment.

Specialty programs
Beyond the Exam Room
In addition to its clinical functions, the building houses a premier infusion center with a private healing garden, a comprehensive ground-floor imaging center, and a large teaching and demonstration kitchen. Each of these programs reflects the project's central guiding principle: that enhancing human experience should shape every design decision, from the scale of the campus to the character of each individual space.
SUSTAINABILITY
Built for People, Built to Last
The project achieved roughly 95% compliance with the client's goal to specify interior materials free of chemicals on the Living Building Challenge Red List, ensuring that wall coverings, flooring, and solid surfaces are PVC-free and low-emitting. This effort enhances indoor air quality and reduces off-gassing over the building's lifecycle. The building is targeting LEED Silver and SITES Gold and is fully electric.
