Where Art Becomes a Path Forward

A PERMANENT HOME

A Space for Healing Through Art

BA partnered with the Path with Art foundation to create the ArtHOME, a 4,858-square-foot space where Seattle's community of people experiencing homelessness can express themselves through music, theater, poetry, painting, and sculpture. The facility serves as the foundation's permanent headquarters and as a safe space for the thousands of participants it serves each year.

Bright, open workstations bring daylight and greenery into the heart of the ArtHOME's staff areas.

FLEXIBLE BY DESIGN

A Gallery Built to Transform

The 600-square-foot gallery was designed as a highly flexible environment, with movable walls that reconfigure to accommodate exhibits, performances, community gatherings, and special events. A large garage door connects the gallery directly to the outdoor patio, extending events beyond the building itself.

ACCESSIBILITY & EQUITY

Accessibility and equity were at the forefront of the design process. Though the project was tight on space and an ADA lift wasn't required by code, the design team included one anyway — a deliberate choice to ensure the building worked for every user. Despite a cost-conscious budget, quality finishes were preserved throughout by partnering with companies offering nonprofit discounts.

SPACES FOR EVERY DISCIPLINE

Room to Create, Room to Work

Two art studios host creative work ranging from painting and sculpture to tailoring and needlework, with double-height ceilings and generous daylight supporting learning and exploration. A mezzanine — added during design to meet the full program — houses open office space, private offices, and a conference room for staff.

BUILT FOR SOUND

An Acoustic Home for Performance

A specialized "Jewel Box" black box theater provides an acoustically isolated space for music lessons, performances, recordings, and theatrical productions. Room-within-room construction, paired with sound absorption and refraction strategies, keeps sound contained without disrupting the rest of the facility.

DESIGNED WITH DIGNITY

A Gallery Wall Worth Standing In Front Of

A participant walks through their own exhibit, artwork lit and framed with the same care as any downtown gallery — proof that for Path with Art, equity through design was never an afterthought. It was the whole point.
