Clinica Family Health Services Lafayette Community Health Center
Where Fragmented Care Finds a Single Front Door
Consolidated Care
One Facility, Unified Services
This 65,270-square-foot facility consolidates services previously spread across four separate buildings into a single, cohesive campus. The design capitalizes on an uneven program that made it difficult to align the two floors, instead creating a two-story gallery that connects the clinical and administrative wings alongside an extensive second-floor roof garden.
First-floor clinical space includes integrated medical and dental pods, a pharmacy, financial screening, a group visit space, and a county space. The second floor houses administration, HR, IT, and a training area, keeping day-to-day operations separate from patient-facing functions while maintaining a strong physical connection between the two.
Community-Centered Design
Courtyard as the Heart of the Building
The building is organized around a courtyard entrance that provides community gathering space and shelter from the wind. Two group visit rooms, separated by an operable partition, open directly onto the courtyard, creating flexible indoor and outdoor space for community events and gatherings.
An L-shaped plan contains the clinical program within three practice team pods, master-planned with expansion space for a fourth pod should future need arise. On the second floor, a boardroom takes advantage of distant foothill views and shares access to a rooftop patio used for staff respite.

As a Federally Qualified Health Center, the project supports a patient-centered medical home model built around integrated, team-based care. Warm materials and natural light carry through public and clinical spaces alike, from the reception areas to the practice pods, reinforcing a sense of calm and continuity for patients moving through the building. Staff wellness was considered alongside patient experience, with the rooftop garden and gallery spaces offering moments of respite within a busy clinical environment.
The completed health center brings together medical, dental, pharmacy, and administrative functions that were once scattered across four locations, creating a single destination for comprehensive community care. The project was recognized by ULI Colorado with an Impact Award in the Influence category, reflecting its success in advancing accessible, community-focused healthcare design.
